Dear members of Bhat Sikh,
I would like to invite members of the Sikh community in South Wales to take part in the very first Interfaith Eisteddfod in Wales, organized by the Interfaith Council for Wales and financially supported by the Welsh Assembly Government. This is a brand new venture, which hopes to further develop positive, supportive relationships between members of faith communities in Wales as we learn more about each other through the medium of the arts in an exciting and joyful festival!
The Eisteddfod will take place on November 7th, at Sherman Cymru (Senghenyyd road, Cathays, Cardiff) and this year, has the theme of STORYTELLING. The day's activities are being organized to be a day of arts workshops (including learning the story behind an art form) and a sharing of stories (through puppets, mask, art, drama, dance and speaking) from different faiths, spiritual paths and cultural backgrounds - open to all ages!
In the evening, we are putting together a programme of performances, capturing our attention with uplifting presentations from the diverse artistic talents that exist within faith communities in South Wales, engaging our minds and hearts with short physical theatre performances from a newly formed Interfaith youth group and enthralling us with stories from professional storytellers in Wales.
We hope this event will be a gathering of people who are interested in being a part of interfaith activities, meeting people from different backgrounds, demonstrating the beautiful diversity of society in South Wales and contributing to the first Interfaith Eisteddfod - a ground breaking way of working together as people of faith in Wales. As people from different spiritual paths we have such a lot of offer our society as we strive to live spiritually focused lives that seek to make the world a better place - so let's celebrate this and show the people of Cardiff a united face, working together to bring down barriers of prejudice and ignorance, showing that we are all human beings who have wonderful stories to tell (in many different ways and languages too!) and enjoy each other's company for a day of festivities and celebration!
For the Eisteddfod we are seeking people of all ages who can offer the following:
1. Young people aged 11-16 to join an Interfaith Youth Dance group - rehearsing weekly in Cardiff (Tutors from 'Earthfall' and 'Lights of Unity'). Rehearsals start October 6th (next Tuesday!)
2. Religious/Faith Communities who would like to welcome myself as a Creative Practitioner to their community - for participants of all ages to take part in a Storytelling workshop in preparation for the Eisteddfod and to support participants to be able to tell stories to the younger generation in their community. No previous experience or acting ability is needed!
3. People from different faiths (or of no particular faith) to come together for an Interfaith storytelling workshop - sharing stories, thoughts, ideas for the Eisteddfod.
4. Experienced Storytellers from different Faiths, backgrounds, traditions - to be a part of the evening performances and workshops in the day.
5. Performers from different Faiths in South Wales - Choirs, Dance groups, Drummers, Drama groups, Poets, Artists etc. - to be part of the evening performances.
6. People/communities who would like to offer hospitality (refreshments) for the day and/or evening.
7. Ushers for the Eisteddfod.
8. Volunteers to assist myself for the duration of the project (travel expenses will be reimbursed) and to assist during the Eisteddfod.
9. Welsh language speakers who can translate any written promotional and programme information into Welsh.
9. Those who can act as representatives for their Faith community - letting people know the Eisteddfod is taking place and generating enthusiasm, encouraging people to play a part, however small or big!
Please contact me (see details below) to discuss with me how you and your community would like to be involved!
Looking forward to hearing from you soon,
Kind Regards,
